HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Just because you're retired doesn't necessarily mean life starts slowing down. That's the case for one man in our region.

Dwight Weekley proves that getting older just means getting more involved.

When some people retire they usually become less active, but our Hometown Hero Dwight Weekley had much bigger plans.

As a member of Central United Methodist Church, Dwight saw a need in the community and filled it by doing a variety of tasks for people who either can't do it or don't have the money to do it themselves.

The pastor at Central United appreciates Dwight’s willingness to outreach.

A few other retired men help Dwight out and lately they have been very busy putting together a playground at the Ebenezor Child Center.

Some of his co-workers wonder where he gets the energy to keep going.

Dwight Weekley is not only a Hometown Hero, but also hometown friend.

I was sorry I wasn't able to make it to the unexpected event of Dwight receiving the award. He's a great guy, and does a lot of good in our church. To my understanding, he also designed the playground the mission team is building. Great, great job Dwight!

Dwight exemplifies the Hometown Hero. He is an amazing person with a strong spirit of giving and faith. He is also a great father in law!

What a great guy! I know him, and this is just the tip of the iceberg of what he does to help others. And he really doesn't want accolades for his work, but I'm glad you folks recognized him.
