HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WSAZ) -- A new field of dreams seemed like a dream last year when League 3 played its last game at Cammack Middle School in Huntington.
Now, it's safe to say, this field is a reality.
Credit Todd Shell. The kids call him coach.
"There was never a point in the process where we didn't think we could do it," Todd Shell said.
Credit Jerry Straub too. He calls Todd a son. Well -- son-in-law anyway.
"We've had a lot of fun. We've had a lot of arguments, but that goes with the project so," Jerry Straub said.
Todd and Jerry have personally put their blood, sweat and tears to this community in these fields.
Now, it was the community's turn to give right back with a Hometown Hero award.
Todd admits he may have a selfish reason for getting the field.
"It's fun being 40 years old and still be around baseball. Not many people get a chance to do that," Shell said.
It's a project that could be called the House that Hometown Heroes built. It will be sure to create many memories for years to come.
