HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- While Kenny Clark will be a hero forever to Tommy Cannon’s family, he is WSAZ's latest Hometown Hero.

In early July, Clark rescued 2-year-old Tommy from the middle of a busy highway. The child had wandered onto West Virginia 2 (Ohio River Road) and was nearly hit by a vehicle. Clark was doing lawn work at a nearby home when he nearly saw tragedy unfold.

"God just had me down there at the right time," Clark said.

Tommy's grandmother had been babysitting him when he quietly slipped out a door and walked more than a mile to the busy roadway.

Clark said the event triggered painful memories of his own. He explained that he saw a brother hit and killed by a vehicle.

In addition to being recognized as WSAZ's Hometown Hero, Clark received a special guardian angel pin, a key chain and a plaque from Cannon's family.

I have the privilege of knowing Kenny Clark first hand. He is truly a remarkable person and couldn't be more deserving of this wonderful award. The Cannons were so wonderful for honoring Kenny in this way. Way to go Cannons!!
