MASON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An old Christian hymn has been filling churches since around the time of the Civil War. It's called "The Church's One Foundation."
In Mason, they could have written another hymn called "The Church's Two Foundations." Evelyn Proffit's 97-years-old and grew up in the Mason United Methodist Church.
Family, church and community: they're all special to Evelyn. And she's special to them. One way members of her congregation wanted to say thanks was to nominate her for this week's Hometown Hero.
Evelyn has the experience to know when things just aren't right. She has been the organist at Mason United Methodist for generations. The church just celebrated its 150th anniversary last year. Evelyn has been a member almost two-thirds of that time, and friends describe her as funny, loyal and wise.
If you would like to nominate someone for a Hometown Hero, you can write us a letter about that person or send us an e-mail here at WSAZ.com. Our e-mail address is news@wsaz.com.
