PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Meet Teddy Robinette, a retired coal miner and volunteer fireman for the Turkey Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
For more than 20 years, this blue collar, hard working individual has put this small town in Pike County, Ky., on the map by helping anyone who needs it. Just ask his wife of 35 years.
"He's a caring and very loving person, and he's just our hero," Ruby Robinette said.
For the last eight years, Teddy has been working hard to keep this fire department running smoothly. He did that recently, in part, by receiving a grant from celebrity and former talk show host Jenny Jones, who now runs her own charity called Jenny's Heroes.
"He applied for a grant through the Jenny Jones Foundation, and he was able to get us funding through Jenny Jones," Turkey Creek Volunteer Fire Capt. Matthew Cline said. "Jenny Jones gave us a little over $19,000 worth of funding for some much-needed equipment for this department."
The equipment includes a thermal imaging camera, deck gun, fire fighting foam and a rescue saw.
"You're talking about rescues, you're talking about fire and you're talking about the community and saving lives, so that equipment means a lot to us," Turkey Creek Volunteer Fire Chief James Stepp said. "Teddy means a lot to us."
As a large crowd of Teddy's friends, family and fellow firemen gather, a surprise phone call came from Jenny Jones herself.
As with most heroes, Teddy was humble about the recognition.
"I'm not deserving of it," he said. "These guys over here are the real heroes."
