HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Huntington man is charged with attempted first degree murder after Marshall Police say he tried to run over an officer with his car.
31-year-old Kenneth Buskirk Jr. is now in the Western Regional Jail.
According to the criminal complaint, the incident happened Thursday as a Marshall University Police Officer was investigating a possible burglary in Gullickson Hall on campus.
While inside the building, the officer got into a foot chase with the two men. After the suspects fled the building, they headed for a parked car in the 400 block of 18th Street.
The officer says as he approached the rear of the car, Buskirk put the car in reverse and tried to hit him. The officer then tired to open the car door, but the Buskirk tried to drive off with the officer holding on to the open car door.
Buskirk is also charged with fleeing in this incident.
Buskirk is no stranger to police. In June 2008, police say he went up to a woman in Huntington and stole her purse. Buskirk was later caught on surveillance camera at a gas station trying to buy cigarettes with the victim's credit card and a money order.
Buskirk was charged with forgery and second degree robbery.
