HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- With federal stimulus money starting to pour in, maybe you can have your home weatherized for free -- with Uncle Sam picking up the tab.

In the Huntington area alone, the Weatherization Assistance Program has received an additional $3 million. That means more jobs and more homes, plus a chance for more people to qualify than ever before.

Most families enrolled in the program see their utility bills cut by at least 25 percent. Connie Sherrill runs the local Weatherization Assistance Program and needs more warehouse space. Money from the government means more work crews will be hired to weatherize almost 400 more homes in four counties.

"The money they're going to be saving is going to help them put money back into their pockets, to use towards medicine, more food, or just to help them pay on their utility bills," Sherrill said.

There are income guidelines to follow to make sure you qualify for the free weatherization upgrades. Southwestern Community Action covers Cabell, Wayne, Lincoln and Mason counties. The phone number is (304)525-5151.

You can contact the local community action office where you live for more information.

The comments geared twords non workers make me sick. Disabled people who cant work and get a disabilty check dont have it all. My husbands disabled and so am I, only one of us get benefits right now. We go without because we dont have enough money to go around, our house has more cracks and holes then a bee hive, I go sick because of no insurance. I get tired of hearing comments about the non working/poor class. We dont free load and we dont choose to live like this, we live like this because we have to. The rude, narrow minded, cruel views of people is shameful. What if those of you making the nasty comments had to live like the people you are bad mouthing? Youd see it differently.

Did you guys even look at the lady in the video??? This is not your average sit at home welfare recipient. She is an older lady that looks to be disabled...not somebody working the system! Take a look at things before you post rude comments.
