HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Families lined up early Saturday in hopes of getting a free turkey or ham.

The giveaway was sponsored by Feed the Children and O.J. Mayo. Mayo grew up playing ball at the A.D. Lewis Center. He now plays for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Mayo was not at the giveaway but his mother, Alisha, helped with the event. She said they had 500 turkeys or hams and they gave them away on a first come, first serve basis.

Mrs. Mayo said her son wanted to give back by giving the main course to a Thanksgiving meal.

The food giveaway was the second O.J. Mayo has gotten involved in. The last one was in September.

This is a great thing that Mr. Mayo has done for his home town. I do hope that everyone remembers that Mr. Mayo has faced many of dthe issues that others have faced. The only thing different is that he made a different choice. As far as Mr. Moss goes, he made choices and had to make another choice to make it where he is today. Thank God that he did. Mr. Moss has done many things to give back to his home town and other places. It is sad that all kids do not have the support that these two young men has had growing up. I do hope that Mr. Mayo remembers his grandmother, I worked with her about 15 years and she didn't have life very easy with all of her children. May God continue to bless both Mr. Mayo and Mr. Moss.
