HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- British chef Jamie Oliver didn't get the warmest welcome when he came to the mountain state, but his visit to Huntington has left a lasting impression.

When he arrived in Huntington people were skeptical of the way he would portray Huntington, and he had to work to change people's attitudes towards him before he could change their eating habits.

But two months and many bad habits broken later, Oliver now has a rock star like presence.

Oliver and his production crew went out with a bang! Saturday they hosted a party and concert with country music super stars Rascal Flatts.

Outside the concert was a street fair, complete with healthy food vendors; vendors hand-picked by Oliver and his crew.

Some of those vendors and party-goers think that even though the spotlight has dimmed on Oliver's set the light will still shine on healthy eating habits.

Petra Newkirk was one of the vendors at Saturday's event. She says, change can happen. She says, "I think if they can take the time to learn what different ingredients taste like and they're willing to learn different ways to prepare them, they can really open their eyes to a whole different world of cooking at home."

A world where nutrition reigns supreme, with or without the camera keeping tabs.

Jamie Oliver came to town to show us a healthy way to cook, and the ones that listened will be happier for it. I know the family in Kenova and they have learned so much, and lost weight. Thanks , Jamie! Come back soon!!

The real test will be if Huntington High and other schools are still serving his recommended menu next year or go back to pizza and french fries. I challenge His Chefness to return in 12 months and do a follow-up!
