Been to the grocery store lately to see the drastic rise in prices of fruits and vegetables?

Are you still concerned about the safety of the food you eat especially after the tomato scare? By the way, they haven’t definitively found the source of that contamination yet.

You can solve both of these concerns by visiting the many farmers markets that have already opened. A great example is the Central City Farmers Market on 14th Street West in Huntington. Before I go any further, I want to mention the fact that Scott Perry, the present manager, will be leaving this position early this month. He and his wife have set a standard of management that will be hard to replace. Everybody on the market’s board of directors wish him well in his new job.

The Central City Farmer’s market is a prime example of a local market that sells local farm produce. Matter of fact, in the Central City Farmers Market by-laws, the fresh fruits and vegetables sold at the market can’t be grown further than 50-75 miles from Huntington. The market in Huntington is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from about 6:30 in the morning till the products are sold out. Better to get there early in the morning before work. That’s the case at any farmer’s market in our region and especially because of price and quality.

Seniors, don’t forget about the senior citizen vouchers and WIC coupons are available this year to this group. Seniors need to check with the senior centers for their distribution dates.
