Charleston, W.Va. – Local McDonald’s owner-operators presented a donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure (SGK) in the amount of $9,206 as the result of a weekend fundraising drive among McDonald’s restaurants. The stores in central West Virginia, southeastern Ohio and eastern Kentucky earmarked $1 from every McCafe beverage purchased for SGK.
A $4,666 donation was presented by Ronald McDonald to the West Virginia SGK affiliate at the May Race for the Cure in Charleston.
“We appreciate our long partnership with McDonald’s,” said Rebecca Newhouse, president of the WV SGK affiliate. “The local owners and their customers have been very generous to our cause, and I want each one to know that every dollar is supporting the goal of finding a cure for breast cancer.”
In June, Huntington/Ashland area McDonald’s owner Tom Wolf presented a check for $2, 247 to Edward Addams, Executive Director of SGK – Lexington affiliate.
“We are proud to support the efforts of Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure,” said Wolf. “Many of our employees, family, friends and customers have been affected by breast cancer, and we know our donation will support research and treatment of this devastating illness.”
Addams accepted the check with gratitude toward the McDonald’s owners and customers who supported the fundraiser.
“Breast cancer is a terrible disease that has affected women all over the world, including employees and customers in this area. We appreciate what McDonald’s has given to us, and are proud to put the donation toward finding a cure,” Addams said.
A $2,293 donation was presented to the Columbus SGK affiliate in July by Marietta, Ohio area owner Laurie Strahler. Jennifer Boker, Director of Imaging Technology for Selby General Hospital, accepted the donation on behalf of SGK.
“Selby General Hospital is the recipient of a grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure that allows us to give 120 free mammograms a year to uninsured patients in the area. This grant has saved the lives of countless women whose cancer would have otherwise gone undetected. I am proud to accept this donation on behalf of SGK, and appreciate every McDonald’s customer and owner who supported this fundraiser,” Boker said.
