HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Marshall's basketball program not only beat Tulane on a last second shot Wednesday night, but Thursday brought word of a star guard committing to the Herd.

Shaquille Johnson, a 6-3 combo guard from Jacksonville, has committed to play for Donnie Jones.

Johnson is a 3-star recruit according to scout.com.

He visited Marshall the weekend of the UCF game.

"The visit went well, Johnson told me by phone. I got to see that the academic program is good..and I also think I can have an impact as a freshman there."

He is a candidate for Florida Class 5A player of the year.

He also had scholarship offers from Dayton, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth.

We went out on Sunday and started our prep for Cincinnati, implemented our game plan and yesterday was a day our kids usually had off but it seemed like the change was good, I thought our practice was sharp and we got some things done. It was a little better than last Tuesday's preparation day. We're very excited about coming back home.
