PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) – Winning a state title in Ohio is plenty of cause for celebration.
The Wheelersburg Pirates won the Ohio Division III title Saturday in Columbus.
Players, coaches and fans celebrated the championship Tuesday at Dakota’s Roadhouse in Portsmouth.
"It was just unreal, just a dream come true,” Wheelersburg pitcher Derek Moore said. “We’ve been working for this since we were 11, 12 years old. It’s just amazing.”
"It’s amazing,” catcher Austin Hall said. “I was talking to a couple of teammates how nice it was not to go out hanging my head after losing but going out with a win."
The Pirates outlasted Lima Central Catholic 1-0 in the title game. It’s the ‘Burg’s first baseball title since 1996.
