Reporter: The Associated Press

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (AP) - A proposed minor league baseball team in Bridgeport could begin play in May 2014.

Mayor Jim Christie says talks are progressing for construction of a $10 million baseball stadium. The negotiations also include constructing an indoor recreation complex adjacent to the ball park.

Christie tells The Exponent Telegram (http://bit.ly/TERUNF ) that funding for the project is still unclear. But it likely will be a combination of public and private dollars.

The city is working with Genesis Partners and the Washington Wild Things baseball organization on the project. Genesis Partners owns the land.

Wild Things managing partner Stuart Williams says he and Christie are finalizing a long-term lease for a new Frontier Baseball League team at the proposed stadium.

Site work for the stadium could begin within 90 days.
