HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- "WE ARE....GROWING," could have been Marshall's cheer today as ground was broken on the new $8 million soccer complex.
Approximately 100 Marshall supporters attended the ceremony for the 1,000 seat stadium, indoor track, indoor practice facility which will be located where the Veterans Memorial Field House once stood on 5th Avenue.
Chad Pennington, co-chair of Marshall's Vision Campaign, said this is a proud moment for Marshall and him personally.
"I don't even think I can put words on to express what will happen with this complex and facility. This is something that the Tri-State has never seen and I'm excited to be a part of it," said Pennington.
Marshall Soccer Coach Bob Gray said this is more than a complex, it's a vision for the future.
"I personally envision overflowing crowds, a great atmosphere for our program and of course a continued growth for soccer in this beautiful state," Gray said.
Construction will take approximately 8 months and is expected to be completed by August 2013.
