UPDATE 6/1/06: Your tips have helped South Charleston Police identify this man as Darnell Staples. Police believe Staples no longer lives in South Charleston--but they say he could still be in the Charleston area.

Police say he waited for just the right moment to steal lottery tickets from a local gas station.
The incident: caught on tape. Police need your help to identify and catch the suspect.

South Charleston Police have named the man pictured one of Charleston's Most Wanted. These pictures are from the Speedway on MacCorkle Avenue. Detectives say the suspect was hanging out in store--waiting for the clerk to get distracted. Then, they say he reached over the counter and took a couple hundred dollars worth of scratch-off tickets. The suspect is facing larceny charges.

"I can tell from my experience, it looks like he's done it before,” said Detective P.C. Rader of the South Charleston Police Department. “We look at this as a gateway crime that will lead him into other areas of criminal behavior.”

Take a close look at the suspect in this case. Police need your tips to identify him. If you have any information, call the South Charleston Detectives at (304) 744-5951.
