Unemployment Rates Down in 27 W.Va. Counties

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Unemployment rates are down in more than half of West Virginia's 55 counties.

Workforce West Virginia said Friday that 27 counties reported lower unemployment rates in July compared to the previous month.

Twenty-four counties reported higher unemployment rates. Jobless rates in four counties were unchanged.

Monongalia County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in the state. The county's jobless rate in July was 5.1 percent.

Brooke County's 13.3 percent unemployment rate was the highest in the state.
