UPDATE 7/30/12 @ 11 p.m.
SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A heartfelt vigil took place Monday evening for a 12-year-old Sissonville boy tragically killed Saturday in an ATV accident.
Police say Devon Fisher was riding a four-wheeler near Clendenin on Dutch Ridge Road when he hit a tree. Friends and family came together at Sissonville Middle School to celebrate his life and mourn his loss.
"He would come in every day [to school] with a smile on his face wanting to talk to everybody," his friend Austin Snyder said. "He was really just a fun guy."
Classmates wrote messages on poster boards and balloons for Devon. They then released those balloons into the air, along with their emotions.
His mother, Tammy, was presented with a Sissonville football in memory of the sport Devon played at the school.
She took the vigil as an opportunity to speak to her son's classmates, hoping to save their parents from the same experience.
"As you boys and girls go out riding your motorcycles or your four-wheelers, don't ever think for a second that those helmets or safety equipment aren't important," she said. "Because they are."
Denny Maris is a fellow student at Sissonville Middle School who was out riding with Devon on the night of the accident; he says he'll take that advice to heart.
"It makes me want to wear more protective gear and just be safer," he said.
Firefighters with the Pinch Volunteer Fire Department say it happened just before 10 p.m. Saturday on Dutch Ridge Road in Clendenin. No other details have been released about the accident.
Firefighters tell WSAZ.com there was another ATV accident in Clendenin earlier Saturday night. They say one person had to be air lifted to CAMC following that accident.
