CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Charleston police arrested 15 people Thursday night in a raid at the city's downtown transit mall. Police say charges range from public intoxication, open containers of alcohol, disorderly conduct, to people with open warrants for their arrest.
Charleston's patrol division commander, Lt. Shawn Williams, says the police department is sending a message to people who want to loiter or commit crimes at the transit mall.
"We're not going to stop. We're going to keep doing this until people get the message that this is not a place to hang out. It's a place to pass through, a place to catch a bus. But if you're going to violate the law, you're going to be arrested every time," said Lt. Williams.
This is the third round-up at the transit mall, between Summers & Laidley streets, in the last month. This now brings the total number of people arrested to nearly 40 in these three busts combined.
