CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Drivers battled slippery road conditions Sunday after a combination of snow and rain.

“It's been horrible, it's been very slippery,” Gerald Handschumacher, of Charleston, said Sunday while shopping, “Getting everything I can so I don't have to come back out in this mess.”

Officials from the National Weather Service said the snow could reach 3 inches with serious possibilities for ice.

“I've seen a lot of people slipping and sliding,” driver Tony Easley said.

“I slipped and slid and a couple close calls with sliding into a ditch,” Handschumacher said.

While many drivers said they limited their time outdoors Sunday, others said it will take a lot more than snow to keep them from their plans.

“It's a little slick but it don't bother me,” Easley said.” If I got to go somewhere I'm going to go whether I have to drive or walk.”

Safety experts warn for those who drive in the wintry weather to take it slow.
