CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Kanawha County Prosecutor's Office conducted a special drug-focused grand jury to tackle the county's drug problem.
The most recent grand jury in the county charged 70 defendants. 67 of those were for drug charges.
"Our goal is to remove as many drug offenders as possible from our communities; fewer drugs mean less crime and safer families," said Mark Plants, Kanawha County Prosecutor.
The special grand jury was conducted as a result of recommendations offered by the Kanawha County Substance Abuse Task Force.
"Attacking drugs requires a two prong approach, the supply and the demand side. While I continue to attack drug suppliers, it's imperative that drug addicts receive supervision and services," added Plants.
