CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A simple shoplifting incident ended in a SWAT Team situation in Malden.
According to a news release, Bilal M. Lyles, 20, of Malden, tried to steal two cans of beer from the FasChek in Malden Tuesday when store employees confronted him. During the incident, deputies say Lyles dropped a pistol, but was able to pick it up and point it at the people in the store.
A deputy arrived at the store shortly after and gave Lyles multiple orders to show his hands, but instead Lyles took off and ran two blocks to his house, according to the release.
Deputies surrounded the house and called in the SWAT Team to the location. After several minutes, Lyles surrendered to officers.
Lyles was charged shoplifting, carrying a concealed weapon, obstructing an officer and fleeing.
According to the release, Lyles was recently arrested after a similar incident at the Gabriel Brothers' Store in Kanawha City.
