CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The St. Albans Police Department is alerting residents about false reports of a chemical leak in the area.
The police department, as well as Metro 911, have received multiple calls as of Wednesday afternoon from concerned residents who have heard about a chemical leak in the city. There were also false reports of a shelter in place issued in St. Albans.
Both claims are false, according to Captain James Agee. The department issued a message through Nixle at 1:56 p.m. to alert people of the false information.
Police are still trying to track down how this false information was communicated. If you are hearing this information, you're urged to contact St. Albans Police.
If there is a chemical leak or a shelter in place issued, an alert would be broadcasted on television and radio.
