Chemical Incident Reported at Plant in Institute

INSTITUTE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Emergency crews are on the scene of a chemical incident at Catalyst Refinery in Institute.

Kanawha County Emergency Manager C.W. Sigman tells WSAZ.com nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide got mixed together and it created a vapor.

It happened about 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Sigman says so far, tests show none of the vapor has escaped the plant.

A clean up crew is on the scene.

Sigman says most of the workers have been sent home for the day, only key personnel are still at the plant.

No traffic is being allowed into the plant.

No injuries have been reported.
