UPDATE: Busy Cross Lanes Roadway Reopens

CROSS LANES, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Goff Mountain Road reopened Monday night in the area where utility lines fell after a tractor-trailer clipped them earlier in the day, according to Metro 911.

Goff Mountain Road had been closed nearly 12 hours between Interstate 64 and West Washington Street after a truck carrying heavy equipment clipped some cable and phone lines and pulled them down into the road.

The incident was reported about 9:30 a.m. Monday. The roadway reopened just after 9 p.m. Monday.

No one was hurt, but the incident caused serious traffic congestion in that area.

CROSS LANES, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An accident Monday morning along Goff Mountain Road in Cross Lanes caused traffic delays and power outages for businesses along the busy intersection.

Deputies say a tractor-trailer carrying heavy equipment hit utility lines, causing several power and cable lines to drop onto the street.

Hair stylist Leah Cooper said when she arrived for work Monday and noticed her power was still on, she thought maybe she was just lucky. She said she soon realized she was mistaken.

“I thought probably they turned it down to fix it and that they'd turn it back on after they were done,” Cooper said.

“There were several lines down on the roadway on the ground, and they were activated; they were hot,” Kanawha County Sheriff''s Capt. Sean Crosier said.

Officials closed Goff Mountain Road from the interstate to Washington Street because of those active lines and the potential danger they caused.

Emergency officials said the tractor-trailer met the required clearance height.

They’re currently investigating what caused the incident.

CROSS LANES, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An accident Monday morning is still causing issues for people in the Cross Lanes area.

Goff Mountain Road has been closed between I-64 and West Washington Street since 9:30 a.m. after a truck carrying heavy equipment clipped some cable and phone lines and pulled them down into the road.

Residents of Brick Lane and Old Goff Mountain Road continue to have delayed access to their home while crews work to restore the
poles and lines.

Several accidents have resulted from the downed power lines in the West Washington Street and 40th Street in Nitro which are causing additional problems.

Emergency officials are urging all drivers to please be patient and cautious when driving in the area to help avoid any additional accidents.

The road is expected to be closed for several more hours while repairs are being made.

CROSS LANES, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Some Kanawha County Schools are experiencing massive delays getting students home in the Cross Lanes area follwoing an accident that downed utility lines.

Goff Mountain Road has been closed between I-64 and West Washington Street since 9:30 a.m. Monday after a truck carrying heavy equipment clipped some cable and phone lines and pulled them down into the road.

Emergency crews expect it to take at least 10 hours before the road reopens. That means it will not reopen before rush hour Monday evening.

According to school officials, the transportation issues are affecting students at Cross Lanes Elementary, Andrew Jackson Middle and Nitro High School.

Metro 911 reports the road closure is also affecting traffic along I-64. Right now, westbound traffic is backed up from Cross Lanes to Dunbar.

Emergency crews tell WSAZ.com a tractor trailer carrying heavy equipment clipped some cable and phone lines and pulled them down into the road. The accident happened about 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Goff Mountain Road is closed between I-64 and West Washington Street.

C.W. Sigman with Emergency Management for Kanawha County tells WSAZ.com it's expected to take crews another ten hours to make all the necessary repairs to the pole and lines damaged in the accident.

Three people were in the truck at the time of the accident. They had to stay in the truck until emergency crews knew it was safe for them to get out.

No one was hurt.

Three people were in the truck. They had to stay in the truck until emergency crews knew it was safe for them to get out.

Goff Mountain Road is closed between I-64 and West Washington Street.

The power company has been called into replace a utility pole. It's expected to take several hours.

CROSS LANES, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Emergency crews are on the scene of a crash that has blocked Goff Mountain Road in Cross Lanes.

It happened about 9:15 a.m. Monday between the City National Bank and Go-Mart.

It is unclear if anyone has been hurt.

Dispatchers say power lines have been knocked down into the road.

All lanes of Golf Mountain Road are closed between I-64 and West Washington Street.
