CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Bloody clothes are still in the front yard following an early morning stabbing that sent one man to the hospital.
The stabbing took place on the sidewalk in the 900 block of Central Ave in Charleston.
Ahmari Smith, 20, of Detroit, was stabbed in the lower back and suffered two defensive wounds on his hands, according to Charleston Police.
A witness who did not want to be identified told WSAZ.com that she heard a lot of noise outside her home early Friday morning and went to see what was going on. When she went outside she saw four men beating a friend of her son. She screamed and told the attackers she was calling the law, at that time the attackers fled the scene.
"He was lying on the sidewalk and there was blood everywhere, I thought he was dead, they beat him pretty bad," the witness said.
Smith told police he was jumped from behind by several men but doesn't know who or why he was stabbed.
Police say Smith was rushed to CAMC General and his injuries are expected to be non life threatening.

Metro 911 told WSAZ.com it was reported about 4:34 a.m. Friday at 924 Central Avenue.
The dispatcher said a person was taken to CAMC General. It's not been released whether the person was shot or stabbed.
Charleston Police are still on the scene investigating.
