UPDATE: I-64E Reopens in Putnam After Multi-Vehicle Accident

UPDATE @ 11:45 a.m.
PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 in Putnam County have reopened after a multiple vehicle crash.

The accident happened about 10:30 a.m. right before the Scott Depot exit.

Emergency crews at the scene tell WSAZ.com the driver of the maroon pickup truck was slowing down because traffic was backing up near a construction site. The driver noticed a red car behind him wasn't slowing so he tried to get into the fast lane, but that's when he was rear-ended by the car. The impact caused the truck to slam into the median wall and then it hit another pickup truck traveling east.

Two passengers in the maroon pickup truck were taken to the hospital, along with another person who was in the red car.

No word on their conditions.

No one was hurt in the white pickup truck.

Traffic was backed up in the eastbound lanes until the area was cleared.
