SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Some 1,000 West Virginia American Water customers are now under a precautionary boil water advisory.

The advisory affects customers living in the Sissonville, Sissonville Road and Pocatalico areas.

According to WV American Water the affected areas include:

  • Rt. 21/Sissonville Drive from White Oak Drive to Poca River Road (also known as Cicerone Star Route)
  • Presson Drive
  • Lakeland Drive
  • Mapleview Drive
  • Kelmont Lane
  • Archibald Drive
  • Legg Fork Road from Rt. 21 to Sigman Fork Road
  • Derricks Creek Road from Rt. 21 to the 5000-block
  • Riverbend Road
  • Shirkey Lane
  • Grapevine Road
  • Sisson Lane
  • Sisson Terrace
  • Old Mill Road

A water main break led officials to put the boil water advisory in place. Crews say the break drained a nearby water storage tank, and they're now working to repair the problem as quickly as possible.

Affected customers should boil their water before consumption until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water. Customers are asked to bring water used for drinking, cooking, bathing and brushing teeth to a full boil for a minimum of one minute, then cool before use.
