CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A suspect in a murder case in Charleston will stay behind bars.

Deveron Patterson is charged with first-degree murder in the connection with the death of Kareem Hunter.

On Wednesday, Patterson's attorney asked for his bond to be set at $100,000. The judge denied that request.

"He's presumed innocent as he sits here before this court," said Jesse Forbes, Patterson's attorney.

Prosecutors say Patterson helped Miguel Quinones duct tape Hunter after he was murdered at an apartment in Marmet in September. Hunter's body was found about a month later dumped in Beckley.

"He admits that in his backpack, that there is a rubber mallet that Miguel Quinones uses to kill the defendant. He admits that he has a gun," Prosecutor Dan Holstein said.

Quinones is also in jail without bond.

A woman, Kelsey Legg, was charged in the case. She pleaded guilty to getting rid of evidence and cleaning up after the murder.
