UPDATE 1/19/14 @11:40 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- For Tonesha Copning, Sunday is a day she will never forget.

"My dad told me that my little brother had been shot," said Copning.

As she rushed to the hospital, thoughts of previous gun-tragedies flashed through her mind. She'd already lost two cousins to gunfire, and now her younger brother, 20-year-old Maylik Watson had been shot in the face.

"He remembers just being in pain," said Copning. "He just felt like he was dead."

Amazingly, Watson was alive and conscious, recalling the argument that ended in catastrophe.

"He just told me he got into a fight and it went wrong," said Copning, "and somebody just pulled out a gun, shot it in the air and it hit him."

Terry Davis lives near Delaware and Roane streets where the shooting took place.

He was on his way to the store when he heard shots and saw people scatter.

"There were two boys that went to Kroger, and three boys that run in behind the church," said Davis.

Police were able to locate a weapon and shell-casings. They traced them back to 18-year-old Michael Butler, someone Watson knew.

As he recovers, his sister just wants this scene to serve as a lesson.

"When you get in your 20's, you gotta find out something you gotta do with yourself," said Watson. "The streets is not where it's at."

Charleston Police have issued a warrant for 1st Degree Attempted Murder for Butler.

If you have any information on where he is, please contact authorities.

Watson is recovering tonight and is scheduled to have surgery Sunday.
