UPDATE: Fire Destroys House, One Person Taken to the Hospital

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is in the hospital after an early morning fire in Charleston.

The fire started at a house on Rutledge Road about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A man and his wife were inside, but were able to make it out safely. However, investigators say the man went back into the house to save some family pets. He was burned and had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The man is still in the hospital, but his condition has not been released.

The home was destroyed by the fire.

The State Fire Marshal is going to the scene of the fire to try and determined what caused it.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Firefighters are on the scene of a fire that sent one person to the hospital.

A Metro 911 dispatcher told WSAZ.com they received the call at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday that a house was on fire at 961 Rutledge Road.

Two people were inside the home went it caught fire.

Both of them did make it out but one person was transported to the hospital.

The dispatcher says the house was destroyed.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
