UPDATE 3/13/12 @ 5:20 p.m.
SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- There was a close call in Sissonville late Monday night when a truck went off the road and through an elderly woman's bedroom. It then rolled across the yard and landed on its top.
The driver was rushed to the hospital, but the woman wasn’t hurt.
“I heard that awful noise. I had no idea what it was,” Idamae Harrison, the homeowner, said.
Harrison was in the back of her house when she heard a bang and saw debris fly from her bedroom.
“I was scared half to death, so I called my son and told him to call 911 and come over here,” Harrison said.
He arrived to find a truck crushed and on its top. The driver was unresponsive.
“I thought the man was dead,” Harrison said.
Travis Gray, 35, survived the crash but was thrown through the windshield and was rushed to the hospital. He was the only one inside the truck.
Harrison's family is grateful she wasn't hurt.
“I was just glad she was OK,” her daughter Charlotte Myers said.
If it would have happened about an hour later, it would have been a much different story.
“My head board's right here, and it was up against the window. See, it knocked the windows in. I just thank the Lord it didn't hit me,” Harrison said. “I wasn't in bed, because I might not have been here if I was in the bed.”
She’s thankful to be alive, but she’s now looking ahead to some serious cleanup in the house that she has lived in for much of her life.
Harrison says Gray's parents stopped by her home on their way to the hospital Tuesday to let her know that his insurance will pay for the damage.
Gray is still in the hospital, listed in critical condition.
There's no word yet if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.
It happened just before midnight Monday at a home on the corner of Martins Branch Drive and Country Oaks Lane.
911 Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com the truck wound up on its top after crashing through a wall and a window.
The Kanawha County Sheriff's office is investigating.
Deputies say the driver had to be taken to the hospital.
There is no word on what caused the crash.
