Animal Shelter In Kanawha County Full, Adoptions Needed

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Dozens of dogs in the Kanawha Valley need a home.

The Kanawha-Charleston Humane Society in Charleston is full.

The animal shelter has received 375 dogs this month. The shelter has adopted several dogs this month, but not enough to reduce the numbers at the shelter. Right now, the shelter is housing more than one-hundred dogs.

If you've been considering adoption or fostering the shelter says now is the time.

"Right now, it's more important than ever to come adopt. If you have been considering adoption now is the perfect time to do it," Chelsea Staley said. "If you have considered fostering a dog that's going to rescue now is a perfect time to do it."

Many of the dogs just brought into the shelter are actually puppies.

Since there is an overcrowding issue at the shelter, the adoption fee has been reduced to $76 dollars and that includes spaying and neutering as well as first month's shots.
