UPDATE 2/25/13 @ 11:30 a.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Work is moving along to build a new hotel in Charleston.
Crews demolished the old Long John Silver's on the Kanawha Boulevard early Monday morning. The seafood restaurant closed back in December.
The property will be used for the new Marriott Courtyard. Construction of that hotel is expected to start soon and be finished by 2014.
Long John Silver's closed its door Sunday night.
A spokesperson tells WSAZ.com the business had a month-to-month lease that it recently lost. Wendell Curtis says the property will now be used for the new hotel that's expected to be built near the property.
Twelve people worked at the restaurant, but no one lost their jobs, according to Curtis. The company transferred them to other stores in the Charleston area.
Long John Silvers still has locations in Kanawha City, Spring Hill and Marmet. Long John Silver's has been open along the boulevard since 1974.
Marriott Courtyard is expected to open on that property in 2014. The property has been vacant since 2005.
