Charleston Road Crews Battle Snow Behind the Plow
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Justin Seabolt says keeping the roads clean is a tough job. He and the rest of the Charleston street crew were out all day Friday plowing and salting the mess that Mother Nature left behind.
"The most challenging thing are these hills," he said. "It gets pretty slick and pretty dangerous sometimes."
It's a job that never stops until the snow does -- and even then, crews keep on spreading salt to cut through the ice and cut down on accidents.
Drivers making their way around the Kanawha Valley Friday were faced with some pretty scary travels.
"There were a few times when our car started skidding along, and we thought we were going to crash or something," Albert Chang said.
Todd Loftis drives trucks for a living but says weather like this doesn't get any easier with experience.
"You never get used to it," he said. "Once you start getting used to it, people start making mistakes.
In the meantime, crews continue working overtime to keep streets as safe as they can.
"It's a battle," Seabolt said. "We just keep trying our best."
