CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- There are events planned all across the region to salute veterans this weekend.

Charleston's annual Veterans Day Parade is set for Saturday, November 10 at 10 a.m. The parade will be followed by a ceremony at the Schoenbaum Stage at Haddad Riverfront Park.

The Veterans Day National Committee has selected Charleston as one of 62 regional sites for major celebrations this year.

The parade will include more than 60 units, including elected leaders, school bands, groups of veterans, first responders and other organizations that support veterans.

The ceremony will feature Commander Adam D. Palmer, Commanding Officer of the USS West Virginia, according to a news release.

The parade route will start at the intersection of Kanawha Boulevard and Leon Sullivan Way then head north on Leon Sullivan Way, west on Quarrier Street, south on Truslow Street and then east on Kanawha Boulevard to Haddad Park.

Organizers are asking people to line Quarrier Street to demonstrate their support for veterans.

The ceremony at Haddad Park is expected to begin about 11 a.m.

The city will close Kanawha Boulevard from Brooks Street to Clendenin Street from 7 a.m. Saturday until the parade moves through town. Qruarrier Street between Leon Sullivan to Truslow will also be closed during that time.
