Charleston Says 'Goodnight' to 2012 and Rings in New Year
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Thousands of people came out in high spirits to ring in 2013 around Charleston, and many of them could be found at the 18th annual "Goodnight Celebration."
The music festival gave families a free and fun way to kick off the New Year and was sponsored by the Charleston Community Music Association.
"It's a great showcase for our Kanawha County musicians," David Gladkasky said as he rehearsed at First Baptist Temple with his music group, the Presby Pickers.
The event featured live music at 11 different locations around the city, filling churches and theaters with unique sounds. From brass bands to gospel choirs to jazz, there was something for every musical taste.
"It gives people something to do who would otherwise be at home," celebration-goer Dee Johnson said. "A lot of people don't like to go out on New Year's Eve, and so I think this is a great thing where families can come and gather."
Folks could park their cars and ride city trolleys for free in honor of the event.
