Charleston Mother Charged With Child Neglect

CHARLESTON, W. Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman from Charleston is in jail, charged with child neglect after police say she snorted prescription drugs.

According to the criminal complaint, an employee with a Kanawha City hotel told police Kimberly Caldwell couldn't remember what room in which she was staying.

The employee said Caldwell had trouble walking, talking and couldn't pour a cup of coffee.

Police say Caldwell and a man were seen falling down while walking to their room. They also had trouble getting into their room.

The employee saw one child get out Caldwell's car and go inside, according to the criminal complaint.

Police did find two children asleep on the floor, one who appeared to be sick.

The officer noticed a blueish white substance coming from Caldwell's nose. Caldwell then admitted to police she had just snorted Xanax pills.

Officers found 10 Xanax pills that were not prescribed.

Caldwell was arrested early Friday morning and charged with child neglect. The children were turned over to Child Protective Services.
