CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- For a second time in just a few years, Charleston will be the host of the World's Championship Chili Cookoff.
Event organizers made the official announcement at a news conference at the Civic Center in Charleston on Thursday morning.
According to a news release, more than 400 competitors from around the world will compete in the event on October 5-7 at Magic Island. The event will be held on the same weekend as the annual Charleston Rod Run and Doo Wop Car Show.
The city is expecting more than 50,000 people to be in Charleston for the combined events. According to a release, the two events will also generate more than a million dollars in the local economy.
This is the 45th year for the event and the second time Charleston will host the event.
