DUNBAR, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The city of Dunbar has voted to apply to be a part of the home-rule program.
City Council members voted on the application at their meeting Monday tonight.
Home rule gives cities more flexibility in how they generate revenue and more control over over how city leaders do business, something that city leaders say is necessary for progress.
"This will help us with dilapidated buildings, just anything that's abandoned property just to help clean up the town," Dunbar Mayor Terry Greenlee said.
He said council will have a public forum to discuss the application at their next meeting.
