SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A family in South Charleston wants answers after they say their loved one was beaten to death.

Police say they were called to the Southmoor Hill Apartments on Kingswood Drive on Tuesday after reports of a gunshot.

Investigators confirmed Anthony Coles, 27, of Dunbar, died. His family says he was not shot, but beaten to death.

Police say they are still looking into the situation. They've interviewed several witnesses and have been collecting evidence.

They aren't releasing any more information until their investigation is complete.

Police say due to certain circumstances surrounding Coles' death, the evidence will be turned over to the Kanawha County Prosecutor's Office to determine if charges will be filed.
