ELKVIEW, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies have identified a body that was found in the Elk River Wednesday.

According to a news release, Rex Edward Hughes, 48, of Kanawha County, was pulled from the river about 7 p.m. near Walgrove.

Deputies say Hughes was reported missing about noon Wednesday when family and friends realized he never returned Tuesday night from a trip down by the river.

Hughes is known to go to the river bank on occasion for a swim.

Hughes' belongings were found down by the river, according to deputies.

Search crews spent a couple of hours searching the area for Hughes before his body was recovered not far from where his belongings were found.
