KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Kanawha County schools are looking over different options for next year's school calendar.
At Thursday night’s meeting, school officials talked about possibly having kids start as early as the beginning of August or go as late as the end of June.
School board president Pete Thaw tells WSAZ.com that it all has to do with paychecks.
“If we take August the 18th, your employees lose a pay period and don't get paid until the next spring,” Thaw said. “This is crazy that we were put in this situation without knowing it."
The board plans on holding a curriculum meeting to discuss the calendar further.
Thaw says that meeting is set for February third.
They plan to vote on the calendar at the next school board meeting.
