PUTAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Airgas has announced the closure of its facility in Putnam County.

The plant is located on Route 62 near Poca.

Airgas is one of the largest suppliers of industrial, medical, and specialty gases in the country.

Company officials tell, they do reviews of their facilities periodically to make sure they are operating at peak efficiency.

The Poca location has been operating at limited capacity since an explosion in May in an exterior cylinder storage area.

Since the facility has been operating at reduced capacity, the process of filling cylinders has been shifted to other Airgas locations.

The process has been going smoothly and showed a lesser need for the Poca plant.

Company officials determined it was no longer efficient to operate the facility.

12 workers have lost their jobs. They are receiving severance packages.
