Fatal Accident Reported Along I-79 in Kanawha County

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- For the second time, in two days someone has died in an accident where they weren't wearing a seat belt.

The latest crash happened Wednesday just after 9 a.m. on Interstate 79 near the Big Chimney exit.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies tell WSAZ.com a woman lost control of her SUV before it rolled over. The woman was thrown from the vehicle.

Deputies say she wasn't wearing her seat belt.

The other fatal accident happened about 4:15 a.m. Tuesday along Interstate 77 near Sissonville.

Deputies say Jonathan Copley, 44, was killed in the crash and he was not wearing his seat belt. Deputies say the seat was reclined, and that he may have been resting.

Deputies want to call attention to the annual Click it or Ticket program that kicks off this Friday. During the campaign, police agencies, including the sheriff's department, will be pulling people over for not wearing their seat belts.

This campaign is designed to enforce the law, but also stress the importance of wearing seat belts.

Deputies encourage everyone to wear their seat belts when traveling in a vehicle.

The name of the victim of the Interstate 79 crash has not been released. An investigation is underway, to figure out what caused the crash. The slow lane was closed near Big Chimney while investigators were at the scene.

The accident was reported just after 9 a.m. along I-79 near the Big Chimney exit.

Emergency crews tell WSAZ.com the vehicle rolled before the woman was thrown from her vehicle.

At least one southbound lane is closed.

No other information is being released at this time.

911 dispatchers tell WSAZ.com it was a single vehicle accident and the vehicle rolled over.
