KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A former presidential candidate is now in jail and facing charges after screaming and hitting a deputy.

Deputies say that Tami Stainfield stopped her car in the middle of a downtown street, got out, walked up to a cruiser and screamed at a deputy. She then quickly jumped back into her car and fled.

After a short chase she suddenly stopped, according to the criminal complaint. Deputies say she then ran at police and began hitting them before she was arrested.

Stainfield ran in the 2012 election as a 'No Party' candidate.

She is now facing several charges including battery on a police officer.
