ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- St. Albans police are sending out a warning that grandparents are being targeted by scammers.

Over the last two days, St. Albans Police have had reports of three instances of the elderly losing money in the scheme.

Police say typically these scammers are calling pretending to be a grandchild who is in jail and needs money for bond.

One person was scammed out of possibly $16,000.

Another was conned out of $2,500.

Often, without checking, the money is sent.

If you receive a call like this it is important to do your research before making any kind of financial arrangements.
