CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Capital High School teacher is behind bars after she was charged with sexually abusing a teenage student.

Charleston Police arrested Spanish teacher Michelle Ball, 30, Tuesday afternoon. According to the criminal complaint, Ball and a 16-year-old boy began a relationship in January of this year, and it turned sexual by the summer.

“That's the scariest part of it, it could be happening to anybody's child,” parent Angela White said.

Court records allege Ball took the student to her home, a hotel and even to Ohio for shopping trips and also that the two smoked pot, drank alcohol and showered together.

School officials declined to comment, but say Ball had been suspended with pay for the last month while they investigated similar allegations.

Citing personal reasons, school officials tell WSAZ.com it's unlikely parents will be notified of Ball’s arrest.

“That's scary, that's scary to know that teachers are doing this and parents aren't notified,” White added.

As of Tuesday evening, Ball remained at the South Central Regional Jail. Her next court date is scheduled Nov. 8.

The principal at Capital High School tells WSAZ.com that Ball has been suspended with pay for more than a month due to allegations of inappropriate interactions with at least one student.

School officials say Ball has been a teacher at the school for three years.

Ball was arraigned late Tuesday afternoon in Kanawha County Magistrate Court. She is being held in the South Central Regional Jail on $50,000 bail.
