Huntington Woman Faces Child Neglect Charge in Charleston

Charleston, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Huntington, W.Va. woman faced a child neglect charge in Charleston on Thursday after police say she passed out drunk and dropped her six-month-old child.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, Dawn Che'ree Strickland, 34, had been drinking Wednesday while caring for her daughter, fell asleep on the couch and let the child fall from her arms.

The complaint says the baby was found lying face-down on the floor "for an undetermined amount of time."

Strickland was charged with child neglect creating risk of injury, a felony.

Charleston police told wsaz.com that the child had no obvious injuries and was in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Strickland's bond was set at $25,000.
