Poe was driving a backup cruiser when the crashed happened. Edwards says the cruiser was totaled.

Edwards spent the morning at the hospital with Poe's fellow officers and family.

CROSS LANES, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Investigators are looking into the cause of a rollover crash involving a Hurricane police officer on Interstate 64 west just past the Cross Lanes exit.

It happened about 6 a.m. and forced the closure of the westbound interstate entrance ramp. Investigators say the officer was on his way to work at the time of the wreck and it's unclear what caused his police cruiser to slide and flip over.

The officer had to be removed from the car by first responders and is reported to have been alert and conscious.

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital, but his name and condition have not been released.
